NC Prison Release Routes

A person sentenced from a Perquimans County case may serve an active state term at an NC DAC prison outside the county. A release from prison may lead to post-release supervision or, in an eligible older-law case, parole. It may also be a final inactive or discharged status when no state custody or supervision remains. Those results are different from leaving Albemarle District Jail, which handles adult local custody.

A transfer from Albemarle to NC DAC is not a community release. It is a change of custodian. The state record should show an admission and active inmate status after the local jail exit. Later, an Actual Release Date may mark the prison exit while an active Probation/Parole/Post Release Status shows that supervision continues. Final discharge is broader than release from a prison building.

Confirm an NC Prison Release

The NC DAC Offender Public Information search contains current and historical prison, probation, and parole records beginning in 1972. It does not contain county-jail-only records. Search by offender number when possible because that identifier is stronger than a common name.

1. Select a useful status, such as Active Inmate, Active Probationer/Parolee, Inactive, or All.
2. Enter the offender number or use name and birth details to narrow the result.
3. Match identity and county or case information before opening a detail record.
4. Read the overall Inmate Status and Probation/Parole/Post Release Status before any sentence date.
5. Review every sentence block for admission, service status, Projected Release Date, and Actual Release Date.

The search options support identity matching and separate active custody from inactive or supervised status.

NC Prison Release Search Fields

OPI combines overall status with sentence-level history. A careful reading begins at the top of the record and then moves through each active and historical sentence. The exact labels prevent a projected event from being reported as complete. The official OPI search help defines the search and status options when a field is unclear.

Sentence details can also identify offender number, county of conviction, docket, offense, punishment type, commitment type, sentence begin date, minimum and maximum term, and admission information. A DAC photograph is a state correction image. It may differ from an earlier Albemarle booking image.

Note: OPI's current overall status carries more weight than an isolated historical actual-release date from an older sentence.

Perquimans Monthly Prison Releases

NC DAC also offers a monthly released-offender search. It accepts release county with year and month, or a surname with a sounds-like option. Perquimans is available as a release-county selection. The tool also includes Release County Not Reported and Released To Other State(s).

This is a state-prison release tool, not a Perquimans County jail list. It does not become a 24-hour or 72-hour Albemarle feed simply because Perquimans is selected. Result columns can include offender number, name, release date, primary offense qualifier, and type of release. Open the person's OPI detail to verify identity, the overall status, supervision, and the sentence to which the date belongs.

The release-county field must not be silently relabeled as county of conviction, residence, or releasing jail. A person convicted in Perquimans can be released to another county, and someone released to Perquimans may have been convicted elsewhere. If a likely person is absent, search by name and consider the not-reported and other-state categories.

NC DAC Release Records Contact

The NC DAC public-record request form is the fallback for an existing state record when OPI does not answer the question. DAC identifies basic conviction information, time served, sentence length, admission, and release dates as public categories, while internal prison and community-supervision records can be restricted.

Provide the full name, offender number, relevant date range, Perquimans County case connection, and the exact event fields requested. Electronic delivery is the default. DAC says simple matters may take days while complex requests can take weeks or months; the legal standard is response as promptly as possible, not a guaranteed number of days.

DAC does not possess Albemarle District Jail records, so local booking requests must remain with the regional jail.

NC Release and Supervision Status

State prison release and sentence discharge are separate events. A person may have an inactive incarceration status and an active post-release or parole status. That combination means the person left prison but remains under NC DAC community supervision. OPI may provide supervision begin and end dates, county or location, and an office reference.

Probation may follow a suspended sentence without any state-prison release. Parole generally concerns eligible older-law offenses, while modern structured sentences use post-release supervision where required. The Perquimans post-release supervision record provides the separate verification route for the community phase.

NC Prison Dates Need Context

A Projected Release Date is a calculation, not proof that release occurred. It can move because earned time is awarded, forfeited, withheld, or restored; a court amends the judgment; DAC audits jail credit; a disciplinary event occurs; another sentence or detainer is entered; or consecutive and concurrent terms change the controlling calculation.

An Actual Release Date is stronger, but only for the sentence block in which it appears. The person may later return on a new commitment, revocation, or another active sentence. Compare the actual date with the current admission, overall inmate status, current location, and all service-status fields. If active supervision appears, describe the event as prison release to supervision, not final discharge.

Perquimans Prison Record Boundary

No adult NC DAC prison was found in Perquimans County. The system page represents statewide custody that can follow a Perquimans judgment. It should not be confused with Albemarle Correctional Institution, which is near the city of Albemarle in Stanly County and is unrelated to Albemarle District Jail.

For a local arrest that never produced a state commitment, OPI may have no record. Use Albemarle District Jail for the confinement event and eCourts for the case result. When Albemarle records a DAC commitment, the local release entry and the state admission should line up as a transfer. For an actual state-prison exit, OPI and the DAC release record become the primary sources.

The strongest statement stays narrow and dated: NC DAC showed the person inactive from prison with an actual release date and either active or inactive supervision on the lookup date. That reports what the state system proves without claiming freedom from every possible authority.

When OPI and the monthly release search appear to conflict, compare the release month, offender number, sentence block, and overall status. The tools may show different slices of one correction history. A monthly row can locate the event, while the full detail explains whether supervision began or another sentence stayed active. If the public fields remain unclear, request the admission and release dates from DAC rather than assigning a meaning to a code or county field.
